New article comparing selection interview formats
Today, there are so many ways to conduct job interviews today, from face-to-face to video to written formats. Therefore, it's important to understand the differences between these formats. This study looked at how much applicants’ tendency to present themselves in an overly positive light (social desirability tendency) affects personality scores across three interview types. In a simulated hiring setting, 211 participants completed face-to-face, video, and written personality interviews with similar questions. Results showed that face-to-face interviews were least influenced by social desirability, while written interviews were most affected — and this varied by the trait being measured. These findings suggest that interview format can impact the accuracy of personality assessments, and that face-to-face interviews still work best.
