Applications

Who can apply?

The EASP Summer School welcomes graduate students currently enrolled in PhD Programmes in Psychology (preferably, Social Psychology) in an European University. Moreover, the Summer School keeps 5 of the 60 Summer School places open for graduate students for North America/Canada (selected by SPSP) and 5 places for Australasian students (selected by the SASP). This is based on an agreement with SPSP and SASP which, in turn, allows European students to attend the SPSP Summer School (SISP) and the summer school of SASP.

Please note however that SPSP applicants must apply (and submit referee forms) directly via SPSP  and SASP applicants must apply and submit referee forms directly via SASP. They should not send these materials to the EASP2018 team.

Please note that only one student per supervisor is permitted to apply for the summer school. If a supervisor has more than one eligible student, the supervisor and students must decide on who will be put forward.

Priority will be given to students who are relatively advanced in their PhD studies, and would have completed their PhD by the time of the next EASP summer school (2020). Furthermore, preference will be given to EASP postgraduate members.

Students from European Universities who have participated in a previous EASP, SASP or SPSP Summer School cannot apply.

What does it cost?

The participation fee for the 2018 Summer School will be 650 Swiss Francs. The fee will cover lunch and accommodation in a double room, but not travel to and from the summer school.

It is expected that the student's institution will contribute to the cost of attending the Summer School. It might be possible to access additional sources of funding to support participation, including:

EASP (postgraduate members only): For details about travel grants, see http://www.easp.eu/activities/own/grants.htm

Experimental Psychology Society Grindley Grants: For details, see http://www.eps.ac.uk/index.php/grindley-grants-for-conference-attendance

Psychology Postgraduate Affairs Group (UK-based students only): For details, see http://www.psypag.co.uk/bursaries-2/

How can I apply?

Interested participants are required to send a completed application form and arrange for a recommendation of the supervisor to be sent via e-mail to
easpsummerschool2018@psychologie.uzh.ch

Please inform your supervisor that they should point out your strengths and qualifications in the recommendation letter (rather than saying "it would be really good for them to attend").

Please send in your application as a Word document labelled with your Last Name in the file name (for example if your name is Johannes Smith, the filename would be Smith_J_SSZurich18).

Referees are kindly asked to write the name of the student they are recommending in the subject line of the email.

Both forms should be emailed before the deadline on 15th January 2018.

*Please note that a supervisor can only support one student in their summer school application* If a supervisor has more than one eligible student, the supervisor and students must decide on who will be put forward.

Note 24/11/17: We have resolved an ambiguity in the application form. Previously it stated somewhat misleadlingly "please arrange for a reference letter by your supervisor to be sent directly by your referee“. What we mean (and what we state now) is "Please ask your supervisor to send a reference letter directly to“. So to be clear: There is only one recommendation required and this recommendation should come from your supervisor! Sorry for the inconvenience!
