Cognitive Social Psychology

SNSF-Professorship Carmen Tanner

Our research section, which is granted by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), deals with processes of judgment and decision making. Thereby we connect cognitive and social psychological approaches. Our special focus lies on the influence of moral and ethics on individual and group decision making processes. We refer to newer findings that address the fact that persons often bring values or moral stands into discussions or decisions, which they treat as not negotiable or not exchangeable. Such values are called “protected values” or “sacred values” in the literature. One of our endeavors is linking basic research with practical applications. Our research deals with different ecological, social and economical issues and the problem of sustainability. more information
